Lesson Plans

FREE Chess Lesson Plans

Chess teachers and coaches can help each other by sharing short chess lesson plans on this site. These are 5 to 15 minute lessons for use during a chess club meeting or chess class, leaving plenty of time to enjoy honing the new skill over the board.

Lessons are listed below in the approximate order that they are normally taught. Examples of many possible additions are included in the list, but without links (topic order and title changes will be determined by contributors).

All of the chess lesson plans on this page were contributed by teachers and coaches for their own use. They are sharing these with you, hoping you'll do the same.

If you have a new or improved lesson plan to share, please email it in MS Word (doc) or Rich Text (rtf) format to admin@okschess.org with "Lesson Plan" included in the subject. Sample outlines you can use when creating your own lesson plan are available in MS Word (doc) and Rich Text (rtf) format. We will convert your file to the other formats available for each lesson below, including web page (html) and Adobe Acrobat (pdf).

We hope you'll benefit from these, and
please help others by sharing your chess lesson plans with exercises.
